Safety Net Challenge Match

Jun 4, 2020 | Blog

To best meet the needs of our community, IBM Endicott has joined forces with us to launch the Safety Net Challenge Match. Every donation made throughout the month of June will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $25,000, by IBM Endicott. That means any investment you make to the United Way of Broome County Annual Community Campaign will be doubled, and 100% of each donation goes right back into community projects and programs!

IBM Endicott supports United Way of Broome County’s community vision of ensuring basic needs such as food, shelter, and safety. Securing these basic needs is the first step to identifying the complex, long-term issues individuals and families face. With these essential needs, our community members are able to excel in health, education, and financial stability. Investments made through the Safety Net Challenge Match support those ever-present situations that our community faces daily – a house fire, a flood, the need for shelter and food, and the un-ignorable fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic many face.

Did you know this about Broome County?

  • 1 in 8 individuals are at risk of hunger
  • 1 in 5 children are at risk of hunger
  • 25,180 people are food insecure
  • On January 29, 2019, there were 318 homeless people identified
  • 7% of people claimed that domestic violence was a concern for themselves or someone they know

(Information from the Foodbank of the Southern Tier, 2019 Point-in-Time Count by the Continuum of Care, and the Broome County Health Assessment)

As mentioned, 100% of every investment and its match will go back into community projects and programs to help our friends and neighbors most in need. During these unprecedented times, please consider this unique opportunity. Because of the Safety Net Challenge Match sponsors’ generosity, gifts to the United Way Campaign can double in value and help more people in need. No donation is too small and every donation makes an impact.
