Spooktacular Celebrations: United Way of Broome County’s Recent Events

Nov 1, 2024

The United Way of Broome County has been buzzing with excitement this October. From a Halloween Costume Giveaway to the festive Boo! at Barta, these gatherings highlighted the importance of community connection and celebration.

Costume Giveaway: A Halloween Tradition

On Saturday, October 5th, the United Way of Broome County kicked off the Halloween season with a Costume Giveaway. Thanks to our partnership with the Vestal Rotary Club, the atmosphere was filled with joy as children tried on various costumes, from whimsical witches to daring superheroes. Each child had the opportunity to get professional face painting as well.

This event was not only about finding the perfect Halloween outfit; it was about creating a sense of belonging and community. Volunteers worked to assist families, making the experience smooth and enjoyable for all. On their way out, participating families were able to take home apples and potatoes donated by CHOW. Each family was also gifted a pumpkin to take home to carve thanks to a donation from a community member and the Vestal Rotary.

Boo! at Barta

Just a few weeks later, on Saturday, October 26th, the excitement continued with Boo! at Barta, featuring a Mario Kart-themed Trunk or Treat. This event drew over 100 attendees, transforming the HLC Lee Barta Community Center into a vibrant Halloween wonderland.

Families enjoyed a safe and fun trick-or-treating experience, visiting creatively decorated trunks filled with treats. Many kids arrived donning their best costumes, from classic characters to imaginative creations. It was heartwarming to see the smiles on children’s faces as they collected candy.

A Community Coming Together

Both events showcased the incredible spirit of the Broome County community. They provided an opportunity for families to come together, celebrate, and create lasting memories. The success of these gatherings underscores the impact of the United Way of Broome County’s initiatives, which aim to uplift families and foster connections.
