Networking, leadership development, and making a difference are all ways you could describe United Way of Broome County’s Emerging Leaders Society. To capitalize on their key values, ELS will be hosting a Networking+ event on May 26 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Beer Tree Factory in the Oakdale Commons.
We’re often asked what the plus is in Networking+? ELS is partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Twin Tiers not only as a means to network but also to spread awareness and raise funds to support the great work the nonprofit does.
MENTORS LEADING FUTURE GENERATIONS IN THE TWIN TIERS
Initially kicking off in the area in 2017, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Twin Tiers works to ensure youth in our community have the necessary guidance and direction throughout their developing years. Their community-based program matches volunteers with a child aged 6-14 of the same gender. Matches spend time together 2-4 times a month, for a minimum of one year, to share activities in their community and build a positive mentoring relationship. These activities range anywhere from walks in the park, arts and crafts, cooking together, going to the movies, etc. Matches can remain open until the Little turns 19 years of age, but many form lasting friendships!
