Day of Action: Recap and What’s Next

Jun 29, 2021 | Blog

And that’s a wrap! Day of Action held on Friday, June 18, and Saturday, June 19, brought together 130 volunteers to take on projects at 9 agencies throughout Broome County. Thanks to the hard work of individuals, families, and organizations, 440 hours of volunteer service were given to the community. That’s worth $14,595 of volunteer time! *

Projects spread throughout the county aimed to complete tasks like yard work and painting at the PAL (Police Athletic League) Camp, Southern Tier Community Center, and Volunteers Improving Neighborhood Environments (VINES), just to name a few.

What’s next?

Believe it or not, September will be here before you know it! United Way of Broome County’s Day of Caring will be taking place on Friday, September 10, and Saturday, September 11. These volunteer days of service serve as a time of remembrance for those who lost their lives during the 9/11 terrorist attacks and honor the many heroes that evolved from the aftermath of that day.

Local agencies are currently working to put together volunteer projects for Day of Caring. Here are some of the projects you can sign up for now:

  • TRAIL CLEANUP AT THE IBM GLEN The trails at the IBM Glen in the hills of Johnson City serve as a free, scenic getaway to the community. Help clean up brush and beautify the trails!
  • AGENCY VEHICLE CLEANING & DETAILING WITH FAIRVIEW RECOVERY SERVICES Fairview Recovery Services is the only licensed long-term residential substance use disorder treatment provider in Broome County. Help tidy up their fleet of vehicles to support their work.
  • STAIN PROJECTS AT THE TUSCARORA SCOUT RESERVATION The Tuscarora Scout Reservation encompasses 1,200 acres of land and is the destination of many memories for children who attend their summer camp. Help keep their structures in good condition by volunteering to stain building exteriors.

All volunteer projects for Day of Caring will be housed on the Volunteer HQ. Individuals, families, and organizations are encouraged to participate by registering for projects directly on the platform.
