POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT
Under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Marketing and Volunteer Engagement Specialist is responsible for cultivating and sustaining strong relationships with Community Partners via a variety of channels. These partners will principally, but not exclusively, be donors, potential donors, funded partners, media organizations, volunteers and/or advocates for the organization. Effectively accomplishing this work requires an in-depth and nuanced understanding of the community and the individuals and organizations within it, as well as the skills to convey the importance of community-based collective work to community organization representatives. This role requires creating exceptional visual communication pieces; demonstrated success in translating complex strategies and concepts into clear, relatable marketing collateral; and the ability to work collaboratively inside and outside the organization to ensure high-quality visual storytelling and successful volunteer initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Social Media
- Under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications, assist in the organization’s social media presence to drive online awareness of United Way of Broome County, attract a new audience, and engage them in the organization’s work
- Generate compelling content that works across social media platforms; facilitate ways to share content ideas across the organization; work with Community Impact and Resource Development Teams and others to develop relevant content
- Grow followers and engagement on social media platforms
- Set and implement social media and communication calendar to align with marketing strategies to build and support our community under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications
- Deliver monthly reports with statistics and results for each account, including: online reviews, feedback, engagement, reach, clicks, etc.
- Regularly test converting social media followers to donors
- Work in partnership with the ELS United Way of Broome County Liaison in using social media to engage the Emerging Leaders Society group and help convert them to donors
- Coordinate with team across the organization for compelling content in our key product areas
Video and Photography Production
- Work with United Way of Broome County team to determine full scope of creative content and production that shares impact of the organization and community partners
- Serve as staff photographer for organizational events, marketing material, etc. This includes but is not limited to using professional expertise and skill to capture professional, high-quality images; assignments may include candid images, portraits, architectural structures, group settings, events, etc.
- Serve as staff videographer in all aspects of production including but not limited to pre-production, production, post-production, and editing
Volunteer and Community Engagement
- Support lasting community change by assisting in the development, implementation, and evaluation of volunteer events and opportunities which align with the organization’s mission and goals
- Maintain the Volunteer HQ. This includes, but is not limited to, training organizations on the platform; managing reports and agencies; uploading needs, opportunities and events; updating resources; etc.
- Assist in the planning and coordination of all aspects of the annual Day of Caring (DOC) event. This includes, but is not limited to, working closely with the Strategic Volunteer Engagement Committee; soliciting and coordinating volunteer projects and volunteers; coordinating the matching of DOC projects to business volunteer teams; facilitating DOC orientation meetings for all participants; training area managers; coordinating the planning and organizing of the annual kick-off and other media events to heighten awareness of DOC; communication prior, during, and post DOC event; and utilizing proper tracking tools to monitor volunteer participation, impact, stats, etc.
- Provide support to United Way volunteer initiatives including the Strategic Volunteer Engagement Committee. This includes attendance and recordkeeping for all meetings, timely and accurate completion of all required reports, and monitoring performance of volunteer initiatives
- Assist in coordinating volunteer special events including but not limited to Day of Caring, Day of Action, MLK Day, National Volunteer Week events, and the annual Volunteer Conference
- Coordinate the dissemination of information about United Way of Broome County Volunteer Engagement activities, events, and progress with the Executive Director, Director of Resource Development, and the Director of Marketing and Communications
- Continually develop new opportunities to raise awareness of the organization’s volunteer opportunities to a wide range of audiences, demographics, etc.
- Collaborate with the ELS United Way of Broome County Liaison to track progress and volunteer work with the Emerging Leaders Society (ELS) Volunteer Committee to ensure all volunteer projects align with the mission and vision of the organization
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge of volunteer engagement trends by researching best practices for volunteer engagement measurable tracking systems and best practices for communicating volunteer engagement opportunities
Media Relations
- Support media relations and coverage through assisting in the development and distribution of any press release, media advisory, or press statement
- Under the direction of the Director of Marketing & Communications, respond to media and journalists’ queries and assist in the development of all press interviews and press conferences. This includes all set-up and take-down of media coverage events
- Track and store all media coverage for the organization
Other
- Represent the organization at community events, forums, planning meetings, and work groups as assigned by the Executive Director or the Director of Marketing and Communications
- Safeguard all confidential information used in performance of duties
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the effective operation of United Way of Broome County
Qualifications
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills

- Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Programs
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite

Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred with working knowledge of marketing/communications, digital marketing, video production, photography, graphic design and Health and Human Services programs and processes
- Associates degree accepted with 3 years’ experience in marketing/communications digital marketing, video production, photography and/or graphic design
