The Marketing and Community Impact Associate is responsible for cultivating and sustaining strong relationships with community organizations via a variety of channels. These organizations will principally, but not exclusively, be donors, potential donors, funded partners, volunteers and/or advocates for the organization. Effectively accomplishing this work requires an in-depth and nuanced understanding of the community and the individuals and organizations within it, as well as the skills to convey the importance of community-based collective work to community organization representatives. This role requires creating exceptional visual communication pieces; demonstrated success in translating complex strategies and concepts into clear, relatable marketing collateral; and the ability to work collaboratively inside and outside the organization to ensure high-quality visual storytelling.


Community Impact

  • Serve as organization liaison with affinity group, Student United Way, by supporting, communicating, and guiding the student group
  • Under the direction of the Marketing and Communications Director, and in collaboration with the Community Initiatives Manager, develop content (social media, video, print, etc.) to share and socialize the impact of the Strategic Community Grants Fund program
  • Serve as organization liaison with affinity group, Emerging Leaders Society, by supporting its marketing and communication efforts
  • Collaborate with Community Initiatives Manager to support communication efforts and ongoing Strategic Community Grant programs and projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the effective operation of United Way of Broome County


Social Media / Digital Communications

  • Under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications, manage the organization’s social media presence to drive online awareness of United Way of Broome County, attract a new audience, and engage them in the organization’s work
  • Generate compelling content that works across social media platforms; facilitate ways to share content ideas across the organization; work with Community Impact Team and others to develop relevant content
  • Grow followers and engagement on social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn
  • Set and implement social media and communication calendar to align with marketing strategies to build and support our community under the direction of the Marketing and Communications Director
  • Assist in planning, writing, and organizing monthly eNewsletter for the organization
  • Schedule, update, compose, and post on the Change Maker Blog, weekly
  • Facilitate online conversations with community members and respond to queries
  • Track and evaluate social media effectiveness across events and campaigns; manage monthly digital dashboard and share with others to improve future content
  • Deliver monthly reports with statistics and results for each account, including: online reviews, feedback, engagement, reach, clicks, etc.
  • Regularly test converting social media followers to donors
  • Use social media to engage the Emerging Leaders Society and Student United Way groups and help convert them to donors
  • Identify influencers in the community, build and leverage relationships
  • Coordinate with team across the organization for compelling content in our key product areas


Content Creation

  • Assist in writing and proofread copy for marketing materials including, but not limited to, eNewsletters, brochures, campaign materials, annual reports, websites, videos, and solicitation letters
  • Create, review, and edit materials for other departments, as needed
  • Serve as staff photographer for organizational events
  • Prepare promotional presentations


Video Production
Work with Admin team to determine full scope of creative content and production that shares impact of the organization and community partners

  • Pre-Production:
    – Brainstorm ideas for strategy and execution of video content, prepare and write scripts, book and schedule talent, work with internal departments and subject matter experts to produce content, determine equipment and locations for shoots

  • Production:
    – Direct and record video projects, overseeing light and sound
    – Communicate technical information; conduct field-based video production testing; operate all portable video and audio equipment; transport and set up lighting, camera, and audio equipment as required; provide troubleshooting and maintenance of production equipment
    – Maintain video equipment and video archive
  • Post Production/Editing 
    – Plan and perform video post-production tasks which includes reviewing footage, editing, making editorial decisions, audio adjustment, sound mixing, color correction, and final editing using Adobe Premiere and After Effects software
    – Utilize computer graphics and special effects for video post-production in accordance with the overall production concepts; compress video projects for output
    – Make video products available in a variety of formats including streaming files
    – Publish, organize, and optimize media on third-party websites such as YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, and other social media platforms
    – Maintain files of projects



  • Suggest new ways to attract prospective audience
  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and venues for marketing and communications
  • Explore new relationships to increase awareness of United Way of Broome County
  • Provide communications support to other departments
  • Assist in the planning and execution of all United Way of Broome County events
  • Attend key events and assist with setup and other duties, as necessary
  • Serve as a representative of United Way; display courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the United Way of Broome County community and public
  • Safeguard all confidential information used in performance of duties
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the effective operation of United Way of Broome County


Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, graphic design, public relations, marketing, or a related field required
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Facilitation of dialogue skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work as a team or independently
  • Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Programs
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite desired
  • Video and camera skills required
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with press and community contacts
  • Self-motivated; good organizational skills; detail-oriented; ability to prioritize, multi-task & meet deadlines
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of United Way and the people we serve
  • Leadership potential
  • Working knowledge of Health and Human Services programs and processes a plus
