What You Can Do to Celebrate Earth Day

Apr 22, 2020 | Blog

News channels, Facebook posts, radio stations, you name it, are constantly reminding us of the ongoing pandemic. Although informational and necessary to be educated, it can also take a toll on one’s mental well-being having to be constantly reminded of negative things.

During this time, it’s important to remember that there are still other things, positive things, happening in the world! With all of the craziness ensuing, you might have forgotten that Wednesday is Earth Day!

Earth Day is celebrated worldwide and is a day dedicated to demonstrating environmental protection. This day is meant to be fun, educational, and empowering.

What can you do on Earth Day? (While practicing social distancing of course!)

Pick up trash

We have all seen garbage laying on the sides of roads, in parks, in parking lots, you name it! Not only does it look bad, but it also has determents to the environment. Trash can sometimes give off pollutants and toxins, getting it waterways, effecting wildlife and even our water supply! Take a few minutes out of your day to go pick up trash. Make sure to wear necessary protective equipment and properly dispose of it.

Rethink your normal household routines

Take a few minutes to think, am I doing what I can on a daily basis to help my planet? Am I recycling as much as I can, properly? Do I even have the option to recycle? Try turning lights and devices off when they’re not in use. Not only is this good for the planet, but also your electric bill! Turn the water off while brushing your teeth. Small actions like this add up to make a big impact on the environment, and lessen your carbon footprint.

Unplug

Especially during this time, we have all been trying to stay connected through our devices. Take some time to unplug. Go outside, and just enjoy nature! There are so many benefits to just going outside, like restoring your energy and boosting your mood. Not only does it benefit you, but it also saves electricity.

Spread Awareness through Social Media

Spread the word! Advocate for people to take part in this special day. Maybe even brag about what you have done in celebration! Snap a picture of yourself or the activity that you did, and inspire others to do the same.

No matter what activity you chose to do to celebrate Earth Day, let these practices become habits, to create a better, cleaner, more sustainable Earth.
