The COVID-19 Community Response Fund

Apr 7, 2020 | Blog

We’re facing unprecedented challenges in our community as we confront the COVID-19 emergency—and it’s important we do it together. United Way of Broome County is proud to join and serve the COVID-19 Community Response Fund Alliance, a funder collaborative of foundations and United Way working to ensure that those hit hardest by this pandemic will receive assistance as quickly as possible, through grants administered to community-based organizations. 100% of all funds raised will go directly to community-based organizations working to help those affected by COVID-19. The collaborative funders include United Way of Broome County, Community Foundation for South Central New York, The Conrad and Virginia Klee Foundation, The Stewart W. and Willma C. Hoyt Foundation, George A. and Margaret Mee Charitable Foundation, and Roger Kresge Foundation.
The COVID-19 Community Response Fund is open to receiving donations. The fund will rapidly deploy flexible resources into the community to support programs and organizations addressing the effects of the coronavirus outbreak across Broome County. Individuals and organizations are encouraged to donate by texting ACTION to 85511.

Applications

Applications from nonprofits are now being accepted. Funds will be released on a rolling basis as fundraising continues throughout the outbreak and recovery phases of the crisis, making it possible to move resources quickly and adapt to evolving needs in subsequent funding phases.

In order to be eligible for funding, organizations must be a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, groups fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, or other charitable organizations which are qualified to receive tax-deductible contributions, such as schools, faith-based organizations, and other public entities. Grants will help fund front line health and human service organizations that have deep roots in the community and are intended to provide a coordinated response to our region’s most immediate needs. Requests for funding from nonprofits need to focus either on programming, capacity building, or operating assistance. Click to learn more.

Together we are enabling efficient and timely access to philanthropic dollars, ensuring those resources reach the individuals and families most in need, without placing an undue burden on the nonprofit organizations providing them. Our organization will continue to work with community leaders, including the Broome County Health Department, school districts, and our service partners to identify resource and service gaps and plan for long-term recovery.
Thank you for being champions for the thousands of individuals and families you help the COVID-19 Community Response Fund Alliance serve. Our mission and our belief in the power of unity are more important today than they have ever been. As we navigate the uncertainty and volatility of this public health crisis, one thing holds true now more than ever: we are all in this together. As Broome County residents, we have a history of coming together to take care of one another. And we always emerge stronger than before. We will thrive as a community by confronting this challenge together and taking care of one another. We hope you will consider a personal or corporate donation to the fund.
With wishes for safety and health,
The COVID-19 Community Response Fund Alliance
