COVID-19: A Community in Need

Mar 20, 2020 | Blog

In just the last few days we have seen the community come together to protect those most vulnerable around us. Whether it be local organizations handing out free meals to children and seniors, or grocery stores designating time slots to those most susceptible to the virus, the feeling of togetherness in our community is something to admire and be in awe of.

We recognize that local organizations that continue to operate may find themselves in need of volunteers to keep their facilities clean, pack and distribute food, make deliveries to homebound seniors, and more.

With schools and many businesses closed or operating with limited staff, members of our community find themselves looking to provide help and assistance.

As a response to these circumstances, United Way of Broome County has launched a Give Help, Get Help volunteer campaign. We are monitoring the needs of our community and leading the county’s efforts to organize volunteers and coordinate volunteer opportunities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, in the most timely and safe manner possible. United Way staff is working diligently across departments to match willing volunteers with organizations in need of helping hands.

If you or your team are interested in volunteering, please call 211 or visit uwbroome.org/GIVEHELP/and United Way team members will work to match you with a volunteer opportunity in the very near future.

If your organization and/or clients you serve need volunteers, dial 211 or visit uwbroome.org/GETHELP/and United Way team members will work to connect you with a volunteer or volunteer group.

Broome County, whatever challenges we face in the coming weeks, we will face them together.

Stay safe and healthy.
