The
Alexis de Tocqueville Society is a national leadership giving society operating
under the auspices of United Way Worldwide, recognizing donors that
contribute at a high level. Members are listed in a nationally distributed
Tocqueville Society publication. The Broome County chapter of the Tocqueville
Society was established during the 2004 Campaign with four charter members.
The Society is named for the French historian and author who, after visiting America in 1831, praised the new nation’s citizens for voluntarily assisting their neighbors in times of need in his two-volume book, Democracy in America.
