The Healthy Lifestyles Coalition partners hosted a Summer Kick-off and Street Play event as part of the 3rd Annual North Side Block Party on Saturday, June 9, 2018. Over 20 community organizations came together to promote summer play, summer reading, and summer meals in the community.
Activities included basketball, planting, bicycle course, public art, lawn and street games, and a smoothie station powered by a stationary bicycle.
CHOW (Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse) provided healthy snacks and kids enjoyed frozen treats. Community resources and health information was distributed to residents. Live music and a dance/fitness performance entertained the crowd. A guest appearance from Rowdy the Rumble Pony put a smile on many faces.
Several door prizes were given away including 2 new bicycles! The Healthy Lifestyles Coalition seeks to improve the health and well-being of youth, individuals, and families living and working on the North Side of Binghamton.
The coalition headquarters, The Lee Barta Community Center, at 108 Liberty Street, Binghamton, will serve as a summer meal site Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 11-12 from July 9-August 22nd. A fun activity and lunch will be provided to youth under age 18.
