CHOW has launched a new pilot program for a North Side Fresh Mobile Market in Binghamton. We're proud to be a partner in bringing this exciting new initiative to the community. Access to healthy, fresh food is important for everyone across ourcommunity and is especially challenging for residents on the North Side of Binghamton, as the area has been without a full-service grocery store for 20 years. The North Side Fresh Mobile Market program will include several parts:
- CHOW will sell fresh fruits and vegetables in the Binghamton Plaza parking lot on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.
- The market will move to the Lee Barta Community Center on Liberty Street on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3:15pm-3:45pm.
- CHOW will then deliver produce directly to homes across the North Side of Binghamton, including elderly or disabled individuals. Residents can sign up by calling CHOW at 607-724-9130.
The initial pilot is set to run for 14 weeks with subsidies sponsored by the City of Binghamton. The subsidies allow food to be sold at discounted prices, with a limited variety of free items offered on some days of operation. Fresh fruits and vegetables include: apples, bananas, cucumbers, peppers, oranges, tomatoes, carrots and much more.
We're delighted that CHOW's mobile market will be stopping at the Lee Barta Center, as it houses the "Eat Well. Play Hard. Binghamton!" project that we manage. This will allow us to reach residents with other unique opportunities to encourage healthy living, from cooking and gardening classes to phsyical activities and community events.
